Book collaboration: The Ventriloquist Dummy's Lament
In June 2019 Against the Grain Poetry Press published the book of poems and woodcuts on which Colin Pink and I collaborated. The collection is entitled The Ventriloquist Dummy’s Lament and consists of 21 of Colin’s poems, each accompanied by one of my woodcuts. These in turn inspired a series of paintings also shown here.
You can order the collection direct from me, Colin Pink or Against the Grain Poetry Press priced at £10.00 plus postage and packing. To purchase from me simply choose the book cover from the images below and proceed via PayPal as with other purchases from this site.
Reviews of The Ventriloquist Dummy's Lament:
“Reading Colin Pink’s poetry is like exploring a treasure trove of cultural riches…alongside the powerful, abstract woodcuts by Daniel Goodwin, this collection makes for a beautiful and highly original package” - Blue Nib: Full review here
“Goodwin has responded to Pink’s villanelle’s with a series of bold woodcuts appearing on the left page, the villanelle on the right, giving equal space to the visual woodcut and the written poem. Goodwin’s woodcuts dialogue with Pink’s poems. This works well, setting the mood, giving subliminal hints about the poem. After reading the poem the reader may revisit the woodcut which, in light of the reading, may take on altered meaning. This makes for a rich reading experience, a three way criss-cross dialogue between reader, poet and artist.” - Agenda - Full review here
“Pink’s voice throughout is forceful, clear-eyed and critical…fuelled by a muscular intellectual passion. The poems’ strength is amplified by the simplicity of the woodcuts that accompany them: poems and images of bold shapes and powerful dichotomies.” - Acumen
